Critical impact of the Border Target Operating Model on British Protected Edibles Growers

The Protected Edibles sector is experiencing critical challenges due to the import changes that came into force earlier this year relating to plants and seeds coming into to the UK.

At this time of year (December and January), many protected edibles growers, particularly those growing Tomato and/or Pepper crops are importing seeds and/or young plants for the 2025 season. This is a crucial time of year for growers to ensure their crop for the next season, and we are extremely concerned about the delays, appropriate levels of biosecurity and maintenance of plant health at Border Control Points, and with seed testing regimes.
