iUK projects - how the BTGA are involved
Dr Phil Morley (BTGA Technical Officer) currently represents the association in two iUK projects.
The first, is to develop technology to use hyper-spectral imaging technology to identify pests (such as Russet mite) and diseases (including Mildew etc) when present at low levels in tomato crops, enabling early action to be taken and minimise the use of plant protection products in the crop. The work is led by technology company Fotenix and experimental work based at NIAB East Malling in Kent.
The second project, led by bio-stimulant company SugarOx, aims to further develop their novel technology to enhance crop quality and yield, positively benefiting both by helping mitigate the physiological effects of climate change in the glasshouse environment.
Updates on both projects will be shared during 2025. Involvement in both projects are cost neutral for the BTGA.
